National Club Championship to go ahead in Gold Coast

Following a 15-month absence due to COVID-19, the National Club Championship returns to the courts in late June, in Gold Coast.

Clubs from Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane will vie for the national title in the men’s and women’s divisions.

In the men’s competition, Victoria’s top club St Kilda are attempting to win their first national title, but their hopes of even participating hinge on a Victorian government decision to relax recent lockdown laws that restrict Victorians from travelling interstate.

Sydney University HC are hoping to take their eighth consecutive title and represent Australia at the Super Globe, in October in Saudi Arabia.

In the Women’s division, current champions University of Queensland will hope to go through to the IHF Super Globe for the second consecutive time, after representing the region in 2019, in Wuxi, China.

Canberra Handball Club will represent the ACT in the Women’s competition. The team has only recently returned to training following the quarantine laws rising from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The reduced competition will start on Thursday, 24 June and end on Sunday, 27 June.
